The Chelsea Bindery, launched by Peter Harrington in 2000, specialises in traditional fine book binding and preservation boxes. We are looking for a full-time box maker to join our team of 5 as soon as possible. You will be trained as a full-time box maker, using both leather and cloth. Hand Bookbinder/Gld Finisher in Kent

We are a small but established bookbinding company based in Kent, specialising in hand restoration and binding of books and paper conservation. We also make bespoke boxes and flap cases. Our customer base is mainly Institutions and Library collections. We have a vacancy for a hand bookbinder/gold finisher.

Key Tasks: - Preparation work necessary for conservation of books and manuscripts prior to binding, including pulling, cleaning, conservation, pressing, collating and sewing. - Ability to produce all styles of binding; re-backs, rebinds, library style, account books. Quarter, half and full bindings in leather and buckram. - Hand gold finishing in gold leaf/foil, both in type and hand letters.

Experience: - Previously worked within a hand bookbinding environment and an excellent understanding of all aspects of hand binding and gold finishing is essential. - Good eye for detail.

Position: Full or part-time roles available. The rate of pay will be between £25-£29k p.a. depending on experience. Holiday Allowance: 20 days + standard UK bank holidays. Start date would ideally be during November 21.
