Hey guys, I'm using chatGPT since a few days and I really love it. I just started to chat about some economical and theoretical topics and I wondered about a bachelor thesis written by AI. Is it fraud or say plagiarism if someone uses AI to write a bachelor thesis? Also, I guess the text written by the AI won't be detected by an plagiarism software since it's randomly generated if im right? I'm not looking for some moral replies since this is only a theoretical question and not for personal abuse of the school system that I love.

I had ChatGPT writing short essays, in both French and English. The structure was impeccable, but in about half the attempts, the AI was either contradicting itself or using fallacious arguments.

I would say ChatGPT could help you write better argumentative texts or essays, not by writing them for you, but by helping you better structuring your ideas.

Impeccable but formulaic and boring, sounds like the essays I wrote in high school following the specific outline plan and structure from my teacher.

Fortunately, teachers don't want to look for fallacious arguments and most of students are too stupid to make sense in what they claim.

I’m a college English professor and I consider it a clear case of plagiarism. If you are passing off something that you did not write as your own, then it’s plagiarism. Doesn’t matter who or what wrote it.

But in an academic context, if you don' t cite the source of your ideas, you're plagiarizing.

Plagiarism is debatable, but it's certainly fraud if you make a declaration that "I created this work by myself" when you did not.

It’s like we need a new form of citation for language generation assistance.

I'd be more concerned about copywrited material that it scrapes from god-knows-where, someone incorporates it, it's found by those reviewing the thesis/essay/whatever, and then they corner you for either having lifted someone else's work, or for having used AI - take your pick.
